Russian propaganda spread historical manipulations around the events in Odesa in 2014 – SPRAVDI 04.05.2026 12:30 Ukrinform Over May 2-3, Russian propaganda intensified the dissemination of fake materials surrounding the events in Odesa in 2014.
This was reported by Ukrinform, citing the SPRAVDI Center for Strategic Communications.
Using the anniversary of the May 2 events, Russians attempted to demonize the Ukrainian authorities in the eyes of the Western audience, accusing Ukraine of “Nazism” and mass murders.
Additionally, analysts recorded coordinated dissemination of messages about an alleged strategic rift between the US and Ukraine. Specifically, claims were circulated about the cancellation of planned visits by Steve Wittkoff and Jared Kushner to Ukraine due to Washington’s shift in foreign policy priorities in favor of Iran. Within the same narrative, Russian propagandists promoted the idea that the US had allegedly completely depleted its weapons stockpiles due to the Middle Eastern front, and therefore, arms supplies to Ukraine and the Baltic countries would supposedly be halted.
A separate manipulative block was dedicated to the so-called “NATO crisis.” For this purpose, statements from Donald Trump and Donald Tusk were used, which Russian resources interpreted as evidence of the West’s “internal decline.” Propaganda platforms emphasized that the US “security umbrella” over Europe was supposedly being withdrawn, leaving allies, and particularly Ukraine, alone to face the “military might of the Russian Federation.”
Concurrently, enemy resources exploited the theme of energy and logistical blackmail. The suspension of Kazakh oil transit to Germany via the “Druzhba” pipeline was presented as a direct consequence of Ukraine’s alleged “destabilizing attacks,” which supposedly create risks for Europe’s economic security.
As Ukrinform reported earlier, Russians had previously spread a fake to the international audience claiming that a stolen canvas by Paul Cézanne hangs in the office of the President of Ukraine.
