Any international accords aimed at ending the war in Ukraine, adopted without Warsaw’s participation, will lack legal force for the Polish side. Poland must be involved in the cessation of hostilities negotiations.
This was stated by the Prime Minister of Poland, Donald Tusk, at a press conference on Tuesday, as reported by Reuters.
Tusk’s Statement on Peace Talks Regarding Ukraine — Poland’s Stance
The declaration followed a meeting in London between the leaders of the United Kingdom, Germany, and France with Volodymyr Zelenskyy to discuss a future ceasefire.
As Donald Tusk was not invited, Warsaw indicated that Poland is being sidelined while the West attempts to bring Kyiv and Moscow to the negotiation table as swiftly as possible.
“I… am very cautious about ideas emerging in Western Europe regarding the earliest possible start of some dialogue or conversation with Putin concerning Ukraine,” he stated.
The Polish Prime Minister also expressed dissatisfaction with the current “E3” format (United Kingdom, France, and Germany), which excludes other European allies of Kyiv from the decision-making process. He noted that this position is shared by other partners in the EU.
“I spoke with Prime Minister Meloni, who is not enthusiastic about the existence of such a format. Any arrangements in which Poland does not participate will not be binding for us,” he emphasized.
Concurrently, Donald Tusk announced that a broader meeting on the Ukrainian issue is scheduled for the coming days. In addition to the UK, Germany, and France, Poland and Italy will officially participate.
