UN Secretary-General António Guterres stated he was “deeply concerned” about the escalation of Russia’s war against Ukraine, particularly its extension into Russian territory. This statement followed deadly, large-scale Russian attacks on Ukraine, including ballistic missile strikes.

This was detailed in a statement published on the official UN website.

“In this regard, he (the Secretary-General) also condemns the recent Ukrainian drone attacks on several regions of the Russian Federation,” the notification emphasizes.

At the same time, the UN reported alleged civilian casualties and damage to civilian infrastructure within the aggressor country.

In the statement, the Secretary-General also “strongly condemns” the recent large-scale missile and drone attacks by the Russian armed forces on Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities, which resulted in “dozens of civilians killed and injured, as well as significant damage to civilian infrastructure.”

Furthermore, António Guterres noted that the latest series of attacks are occurring “against the backdrop of a dangerous trend towards increased strikes on populated areas.” In this context, he mentioned the rise in “civilian casualties and massive destruction of residential and civilian infrastructure,” not only in Ukraine but also “increasingly” within the Russian Federation.

Guterres stressed that attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure violate international humanitarian law and called for an “immediate cessation” of such actions.

Ballistic Strikes – August 5 Attack

Recently, the Russian army has intensified ballistic missile strikes on Kyiv and the surrounding region. For instance, on the night of August 5th, the enemy launched a massive strike on the Kyiv region, killing at least 16 people. The occupiers attacked warehouse and production facilities of Ukrainian manufacturers. Specifically, facilities belonging to “Epicenter,” “Rozetka,” “Silpo,” “PUMA,” and others were destroyed.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy described the attack as “difficult.” In addition to drones, Russia launched 24 ballistic missiles and four “Zircons/Onyxes.” However, air defense forces did not intercept any ballistic targets.

According to the President, there is a deficit in air defense systems, and he revealed catastrophic figures regarding air defense missiles. Deliveries in the first half of 2026 have fallen threefold compared to the previous year. He emphasized that partners possess the necessary missile stock, but their transfer to Ukraine requires appropriate political decisions.
