The controversial singer Nastya Kamenskikh made a statement about her stance on the war in Ukraine following a sensational video and explained why she continues to speak Russian.

The performer decided to personally address the wave of online discussions. She appealed to her followers via Instagram. The artist recalled her activities since the beginning of the full-scale invasion. According to her, she and Potap held charity concerts abroad. Kamenskikh also spoke about the millions of dollars raised to aid Ukraine. At the same time, the singer emphasized that she does not want to justify herself to the audience.

“I hate stating things that seem obvious to me. What is our and Lesha’s position? We are Ukrainians; since the start of the war, we have toured the world with charity concerts. We raised millions of dollars for Ukraine, and I am not trying to justify myself. Back then, everyone did and does what they could. But you and I have been together for 20 years, and I care about you. You are not an opportunity for me to hype myself up; you are people who lived their lives to our songs and entrusted us with their happiness and sorrow, which is why I am speaking to you honestly,” Nastya stated.

Kamenskikh separately discussed how she spoke about Russian aggression on the international stage. According to the artist, since the beginning of the full-scale war, she has called Russia an aggressor nation and spoken about the invasion of Ukraine in foreign media.

“I did not do this to fit into the pantheon of righteous, saintly patriotic artists. And at some point, I completely switched to the Ukrainian language, also not for that reason. I was born in this country and have been with it through joy and sorrow. And I will always support our wonderful people who do not deserve to live like this. Therefore, I no longer support what is happening in Ukraine and do not want to play ‘jingoistic patriotism’ and walk around in embroidered shirts talking about indomitable people. I want these people to stop dying!” the artist declared.

At the same time, the artist did not avoid the main topic that caused a new wave of discussions – the use of the Russian language. Kamenskikh explained that it is the language of her childhood, so she does not consider it a decisive indicator of civic position.

“Every person has the right to speak the language they want. Language does not define a person’s qualities or position. Therefore, Potap and Nastya have never abandoned their homeland, even if the homeland has abandoned us,” the singer stated.
