On Wednesday, April 29, US President Donald Trump held a phone conversation with Russian leader Volodymyr Putin. The initiator of the phone call was the head of the Kremlin, and the main topic of the conversation was the war in Ukraine.

TSN.ua has gathered all the known details of the negotiations between the presidents of the USA and Russia.

“I spoke about Ukraine, I spoke a little about Iran. I spoke about a few different things. Mostly about Ukraine, and we had a very good conversation,” Donald Trump commented to journalists at the White House about his negotiations with Putin.

The Russian president sent his aide, Yuri Ushakov, to the propaganda media, who very briefly summarized the content of the more than hour-and-a-half conversation between the leaders of the USA and Russia.

On Putin’s “successes” in the war

The Russian dictator traditionally boasted about the “successes” of his army on the front lines and tried to convince his interlocutor that the Kremlin would achieve the so-called “goals of the special military operation.” Putin assured that Russian troops were allegedly “pressing the enemy.”

It is likely that these words from the head of the Kremlin had such an impact on Donald Trump that during his conversation with journalists, he suddenly stated that “Ukraine has been defeated militarily.” However, as it turned out, the American president was not referring to Ukraine but to Iran, as he immediately mentioned “159 ships that lie underwater” – these are precisely the words Trump constantly uses, emphasizing the complete defeat of the Iranian regime.

During the conversation with Trump, Putin once again tried to accuse Ukraine of using “terrorist methods” during Ukrainian attacks on strategic facilities on the territory of the Russian Federation, while remaining silent about the massive shelling of Ukrainian cities by the Russian army.

At the same time, the head of the Kremlin did not abandon the goals announced before the start of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, but despite the fabricated “successes” on the front, he agreed to achieve them through negotiations.

“The goals of the ‘special military operation’ will be achieved, the Russian Federation would prefer to do it through negotiations,” his aide Ushakov quoted Putin as saying.

On Putin’s readiness for a peace agreement

For some reason, Donald Trump concluded from his conversation with the Russian president that Putin was ready to stop the war and conclude a peace agreement.

According to him, a solution to the peaceful settlement of the war in Ukraine would be found relatively quickly.

“I think we will find a solution relatively quickly, I hope. I think you would like to see a solution. I am telling you this for sure, and it is a good thing,” he added.

He added that Putin had allegedly been ready to make a deal “some time ago,” but some people prevented him from doing so.

“I think some people made it more difficult for him to make a deal,” the American president said.

Donald Trump also refused Putin’s mediation in the nuclear deal with Iran, emphasizing that “it would be better if he joined in ending the war with Ukraine.”

On a ceasefire on May 9

According to Yuri Ushakov, Putin took the initiative to announce a ceasefire during the celebration of the so-called “Victory Day” on May 9, and Donald Trump allegedly supported this proposal.

At the same time, Donald Trump himself, in a conversation with journalists at the White House, stated that it was he, not Putin, who initiated the ceasefire.

“I suggested a small ceasefire to Putin. I think he might go for it,” Trump said.

What Ukraine says about the “ceasefire”

The initiative for a one-day ceasefire on May 9 has already been commented on by the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine.

Andriy Kovalenko, head of the Center for Countering Disinformation at the NSDC, believes that this idea from the Kremlin is purely pragmatic.

According to him, Putin is trying to present it as a “gesture of goodwill,” although in reality, he is simply afraid for his own safety during the festive events.

“It’s ridiculous and has absolutely nothing to do with approaching the end of the war. Let him just end the war, cease fire, and that’s it. But no, he is worried about his propaganda event because he cannot guarantee any security even in Moscow,” Kovalenko emphasized.

We remind you that earlier, US President Donald Trump stated that he continues negotiations with Volodymyr Zelensky and Volodymyr Putin to stop the “bloody war” in Ukraine.
