The star of the cult series “Star Trek”, William Shatner, shared a personal story that he had rarely spoken about publicly before.
It turned out that a severe trial befell not only the actor himself but also his daughter Melanie. They received terrible diagnoses almost simultaneously and underwent treatment in parallel. The family frankly shared their experiences in an interview with People. Despite all predictions, both father and daughter report today that they have overcome the illness.
“I clearly remember thinking, ‘I just don’t have the strength to undergo treatment myself and lose my father at the same time,'” Melanie admitted to People.

The actor’s daughter was diagnosed with stage four breast cancer. Later, Shatner himself learned that he had melanoma, which had already metastasized to his lungs and brain. The actor underwent surgery after doctors discovered a tumor on his cheek and then underwent two years of immunotherapy. Meanwhile, Melanie had to endure chemotherapy, surgery, and 30 sessions of radiation therapy. Despite his own condition, Shatner immediately offered to cover all the costs of his daughter’s treatment.
“I don’t want you to worry about money. Just send me all the bills,” the actor told his daughter.
Now, the family wants to support those who have also faced oncological diseases. That is why William Shatner and Melanie are launching the podcast “No Time but Now,” where they will talk with doctors, patients, and people who have successfully overcome cancer.
