The Kremlin has stated that it is too early to comment on reports that the United States and Ukraine are discussing a possible cessation of air attacks as part of efforts to end the war.

This was announced by the press secretary of dictator Putin, Dmitry Peskov, according to Reuters.

A Ukrainian source told Reuters that Ukrainian and American officials have discussed a proposal to cease aerial bombardments, which needs to be presented to Russia as part of new efforts to revive peace negotiations.

The source stated that Ukraine had previously approached Putin with ceasefire proposals, which were rejected. However, some officials believe that pressure on Russia’s economy through Ukrainian drone and missile strikes could soften Putin’s stance.

“We do not know how credible these reports are or where they originate from. These are newspaper reports and nothing more. Therefore, it is too early to comment on them at this stage,” the Russian propaganda agency Interfax quoted Peskov as saying.

He said that Russia’s reaction to any new peace initiative would depend on whether it aligns with Moscow’s interests.

“We have heard statements that some new formulas might be possible. We still need to learn more about them,” Peskov said.

“And over time, formulas or proposals will likely be put forward. What happens next will depend on how well they suit our interests.”

Peskov reiterated that Moscow maintains channels of dialogue with American negotiators.

Russian officials have stated that they hope US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner will visit Moscow when their schedules permit, and that dialogue with Washington will continue.

The publication reminds that US efforts to mediate a peace agreement have largely stalled in recent months, and diplomatic attention has also been diverted by the war in Iran.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy discussed the prospects of resuming negotiations with Russia with Witkoff and Kushner this week and is scheduled to meet with US President Donald Trump in Washington on Tuesday.

As a reminder, during a meeting with Vladimir Putin in Omsk, Russia, Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev spoke of the need to end the war and proposed freezing hostilities.

In response, Peskov stated that Moscow is allegedly ready to cease hostilities, but only on condition that its demands are met.
