When to expect active biting, and on which dates it is better not to plan a trip to the body of water.

The second half of August can be particularly successful for fishing. The water is gradually starting to cool down after the summer heat, the nights are getting longer, and fish are more actively looking for food, preparing for the autumn period. At the same time, experienced fishermen take into account not only the weather and the state of the body of water but also the lunar calendar. According to biting calendars for August 2026, the most promising period in the second half of the month will be August 15–20. August 21–22 are also considered good for fishing, and at the end of the month, a favorable period is again expected—August 30–31.
The best days are from August 15 to 20
If you have the opportunity to choose a specific date for a trip to the body of water, you should first consider August 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, and 20. In fishing calendars, these days are marked as some of the most favorable for active biting.
This period falls on the waxing Moon after the new moon on August 12. According to fishermen’s observations, fish activity may gradually increase after the new moon. At the same time, the lunar calendar should be perceived as a guide, as the actual result largely depends on water temperature, atmospheric pressure, wind, and the specifics of a particular body of water.
August 21 and 22 are also worth going
August 21–22 also belong to the favorable days. The biting may be slightly less active than in the previous period, but these dates are quite suitable for planning fishing.
In August, early morning and evening hours often become particularly promising. Due to the daytime heat, fish may move to deeper water, hide near aquatic vegetation, shaded areas, snags, or steep banks.
Which days are better to skip
If there is an opportunity to postpone fishing, August 25–28 are marked in one of the current calendars as unfavorable for biting. For August 23–24 and 29, weaker activity is predicted. On the other hand, August 30 and 31 again belong to the best dates of the month.
It is worth remembering: no calendar can guarantee a catch. Even on an “ideal” day, the fish may not bite due to a sharp change in weather or the wrong choice of location and bait.
Therefore, the best strategy is to combine a favorable date with a good weather forecast, correctly selected tackle, and time of day. And if you choose only by the lunar calendar, August 15–20 and August 30–31, 2026, will be the most promising for fishing.
