Every home begins with a threshold, and it is from its correct energetic protection that it depends what exactly will cross the border of your cozy home.

Since ancient times, people have used special items and herbs to block negative energy right at the entrance to their homes. Thanks to the correct placement of amulets, a reliable barrier can be created against the evil eye and ill-wishers.

A Horseshoe and a Bag of Salt
One of the most famous protective symbols in Ukraine is a simple metal horseshoe. It is believed that a metal shape forged in a furnace effectively repels envy and the evil eye, and its correct placement can significantly affect the atmosphere in the family. Most often, it is hung above the entrance door with the horns pointing upwards, so that it collects luck like a cup, however, to remove accumulated negativity from the apartment, the horseshoe is sometimes turned with the horns downwards.
Another effective and maximally simple amulet is a linen bag with coarse salt. Salt has long been famous for its ability to absorb any negative energy, so such a bag should be hung near the entrance or placed on the top shelf in the hallway. Once every six months, the salt must be replaced with new, pouring the old one under a tree or into running water.
“When a person chooses an amulet, they are actually choosing the language with which they will speak to their own home,” explain researchers of Ukrainian traditions.
Protective Herbs and Garlic
The Ukrainian tradition involves the use of powerful wreaths of wildflowers, gathered by hand. A wreath of wheat, wormwood, mint, and thyme is usually hung on the inside of the entrance door. Wormwood effectively drives away ill-wishers, mint calms those who cross the threshold, and thyme guards the health of all residents.
According to 13 Moons, in European tradition, garlic is the main guardian of the threshold. Garlic braids are hung near the door to prevent the penetration of harmful entities, or its cloves are buried in the corners of the plot. Also, for cleansing the space in front of the entrance, fumigation with juniper branches is used, the smoke of which can drive away any stagnant energy.
Recall that some flowers in Ukrainian folk tradition were considered protectors of the home from the evil eye and evil spirits. Be sure to plant them near your home, and they will protect you from witches, sorcerers, and the evil eye.
