German security services are investigating the preparation of a serious crime. Law enforcement officers discovered a secret arsenal in a forest area right on the border of Berlin and Brandenburg. The Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution suspects that this stash was created on the orders of Russian special services to carry out attacks on German territory.

This is reported by BILD.

Details of the Special Operation and Investigation

As Die Zeit writes, police found the cache with two service pistols and ammunition back in October 2025. Law enforcement officers discreetly disabled the weapons, left them in the forest, and established round-the-clock surveillance. However, this operational combination did not yield the desired results.

The police never managed to identify the individuals who were supposed to retrieve the weapons. It is likely that the saboteurs noticed the surveillance in time and stopped visiting that area. After that, the investigation was officially taken over by the Federal Public Prosecutor General of Germany.

“The investigation is being conducted into the facts of espionage activities by foreign special services and the preparation of a serious criminal offense threatening the state,” emphasized Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt.

Disposable Agents and the Arrest of a Saboteur in Romania

As part of this criminal proceeding, law enforcement officers have already arrested the main suspect. Law enforcement officers took him into custody in Romania, where the man was also planning to organize a series of terrorist attacks. German investigators classify the detainee as a Low-Level Agent (or a “disposable agent”).

Foreign special services often engage such individuals for sabotage and espionage. These people are not career intelligence officers. That is why Russian handlers never reveal the full details of planned combat operations to them.

According to Dobrindt, the suspect was preparing terrorist attacks in Romania. Therefore, German investigators are absolutely confident that the weapons near Berlin were also intended for armed attacks. Currently, Berlin and Bucharest are coordinating joint actions regarding the possible extradition of the suspect.

Citing the secrecy of the investigation, the minister did not directly confirm a Russian connection. However, the politician emphasized that he does not rule out the involvement of foreign states. Dobrindt summarized that this dangerous incident is part of broad hybrid threats.

According to him, espionage and secret sabotage finally became a part of European reality in 2026. Meanwhile, official inquiries from German journalists to the Russian embassy regarding this criminal case remain unanswered.
