Internet users are linking the anticipated celestial event to prophecies about cosmic upheavals mentioned in the Book of Joel, Acts of the Apostles, and Revelation.
Specifically, one user on the X network noted: “Considering the convergence of world events and planetary changes, it’s like a reminder of Joel 2:31.”
The biblical text itself states: “The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and the terrible day of the Lord come.”
Believers interpret such phenomena as harbingers of inevitable trials or global shifts. Meanwhile, scientists urge an astronomical perspective on the event, emphasizing its natural beauty.
According to specialists, the eclipse will commence on Thursday, August 27, at 10:34 PM Eastern Time, reach its peak on Friday at 12:12 AM, and conclude at 1:51 AM. Earth’s shadow will cover 96% of the Moon’s surface, lending it a reddish hue. The entire process will last approximately 5.5 hours.
The phenomenon will be observable across most of the Americas (excluding Alaska and northwestern Canada), as well as in Western Europe and West Africa. The previous eclipse in this series occurred on August 16, 2008, and the next will take place on September 7, 2044.
