Ukraine’s Permanent Representative to the UN urged partners to supply Kyiv with all available interceptor missiles and intensify sanctions against Russia.

Ukraine’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Andriy Melnyk, sharply criticized the UN Security Council for its inability to take effective measures to halt Russian aggression and hold Moscow accountable.
The diplomat made these remarks during a UN Security Council session dedicated to Ukraine, coinciding with Ukraine’s Independence Day, as reported by Ukrinform.
Melnyk described it as a disgrace that the Security Council has so far failed to effectively counter Russia’s actions and prevent what he termed the daily genocide of the Ukrainian people.
According to the diplomat, Moscow is exploiting Ukraine’s critical shortage of interceptor missiles and has launched a large-scale campaign of ballistic strikes on Ukrainian cities and civilian populations.
Melnyk emphasized that regular Security Council meetings and even the harshest condemnations of Moscow are insufficient on their own to stop Russian missiles.
Ukraine’s Permanent Representative called for the imposition of the most stringent sanctions against the Russian Federation, particularly targeting enterprises within Russia’s military-industrial complex. He also advocated for an end to Russia’s abuse of its veto power in the UN Security Council.
Melnyk specifically highlighted Ukraine’s urgent need for missiles for Patriot systems and other advanced air defense systems. He implored partners to transfer their existing interceptors to Ukraine instead of keeping them in storage.
Furthermore, Ukraine proposes the establishment of a global coalition to significantly increase the production of interceptor missiles. The diplomat believes this would not only help protect Ukrainians now but also enhance deterrence against future missile attacks.
It was previously reported that a UN Security Council meeting on Russian aggression was scheduled for August 24 – Ukraine’s Independence Day. The meeting was initiated by Denmark, France, Greece, Latvia, and the United Kingdom.
