Following France, Poland, and the EU, Latvia and Lithuania also gave a firm response to Russia regarding threats to strike Kyiv. The foreign ministries of the countries rejected the Russians’ call to evacuate diplomatic staff.

The Latvian Foreign Ministry’s statement said that Russia’s threats would not intimidate the country. They added that diplomatic staff would not leave Kyiv.
“Russia’s threats against Kyiv will not intimidate us. We will not leave Kyiv. It is Russia that must leave.”
Latvia also announced its unwavering support for Ukraine.
The Lithuanian Foreign Ministry stated that they resolutely reject Russia’s threats of massive strikes on the capital and calls for the evacuation of diplomatic staff.
“A protest note has been sent to Russia. We will not go anywhere and we support Ukraine. The threat of force is a flagrant violation of the UN Charter,” the Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs wrote.
UN reacted to Russia’s threats
We remind you that UN Secretary-General António Guterres, during a Security Council meeting, expressed deep concern over Russia’s statements about plans to attack Ukrainian defense enterprises and decision-making centers in Kyiv.
According to Reuters, the Kremlin announced these intentions after reports of a drone attack on a college building and dormitory in temporarily occupied Starobilsk. The head of the UN condemned the attack on the educational institution, emphasizing that the organization opposes any strikes on civilians and infrastructure.
At the end of his speech, Guterres concluded that it is more important than ever to avoid any escalation of the conflict. In his opinion, an intensification of hostilities will only delay the search for peace and prolong human suffering.
