A solitary tree has mysteriously appeared on one of North Wales’ most popular sandy beaches, and its origin remains unexplained.
This is reported by the Daily Star.
The unusual object has been drawing the attention of holidaymakers at the resort of Rhos-on-Sea in Conwy County for several weeks. A bare trunk, about 2.5 meters high, stands in the middle of the open sand, and its appearance has sparked dozens of theories and jokes on social media.
As the publication notes, the tree leans slightly towards the sea, making it unlikely that it was washed ashore by waves. This is why many believe it was intentionally placed there. Some have even compared the find to the mysterious monolith from the movie “2001: A Space Odyssey.”
Social media users are putting forward various hypotheses, from a sundial and an art object to a humorous “dog post.” Others have dubbed the tree a local tourist attraction and even given it the nickname “Barksy.”
The beach where the tree appeared was completely reconstructed in 2021–2022. Approximately one million tons of sand were delivered to the coast for its renovation, the shoreline was strengthened, and a new promenade was built.
After its opening, it began to be called the “Welsh Riviera,” and since then, it has become one of the most popular tourist destinations in the region.
Despite numerous discussions about who installed the tree in the middle of the beach and why, there is still no official answer.
