The Norwegian Football Federation has called on FIFA President Gianni Infantino to resign from his post.

This is stated in a statement on the organization’s official website.

The reason for the statement was FIFA’s controversial plans to sell stakes in World Cup rights to private investors, which were canceled after UEFA and 55 national member associations threatened a boycott of the tournament.

UEFA was also supported in this by the Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC).

Following Infantino’s controversial commercial plans, the Norwegian Football Federation stated that the 56-year-old Swiss official has eroded trust in FIFA.

“There is no way back for Gianni Infantino. International football cooperation is facing serious challenges, and we need a reason to come together now. We want to ask the FIFA president to resign immediately,” the Norwegian Football Federation’s website reads.

As a reminder, FIFA’s plan involved creating a separate company, FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE), which would manage the World Cup. The deal to sell World Cup stakes to private investors was valued at €17 billion.

JP Morgan was to be the financial consultant for the project, and a group of investors was to be led by Thrive Capital, headed by Joshua Kushner, the brother-in-law of White House advisor Jared Kushner, son-in-law of U.S. President Donald Trump.

Previously, it was reported that FIFA opened disciplinary proceedings against the Argentina national team following scandals at the 2026 World Cup.
