Hundreds, possibly thousands, of white storks gathered in a field belonging to a farm in the Sniatyn community of the Ivano-Frankivsk region.
An impressive video was posted on TikTok by user Vova Keyvan.
The footage shows birds flocking en masse behind a tractor as it plows a field after harvesting grain crops.
Presumably, the storks were searching for food, such as small rodents and other animals, that become accessible after the soil is turned.
Such a congregation of storks in late summer is a natural phenomenon; in August, they often gather in large groups in open fields before their seasonal migration.
In a comment on the video, farmer Ivan Keyvan clarified that the filming took place on a farm in the Sniatyn community.
A sign of peace or a warning of famine?
The unusual spectacle is being actively discussed by TikTok users.
Some admitted to being frightened by the number of birds: “You should write at the end of the video that no storks were harmed; it was scary to watch.”
Some commentators saw the flight of storks as a good omen and linked it to a potential end to the war. “If only this were a sign of peace and the end of the war!” and “This is a good sign – there will be peace,” users wrote.
At the same time, others recalled folk omens and suggested that a large number of birds could portend famine.
The most pragmatic explanation comes from those who remind us of the approaching migration: before a long journey, storks feed actively and accumulate energy.
Indeed, in August, white storks begin to gather in large flocks before flying off to their wintering grounds. Similar mass gatherings of birds in fields have also been recorded in other regions of Ukraine.
