Russian presidential spokesperson Dmitry Peskov declared that there are currently no grounds to anticipate an improvement in relations between Russia and European nations, accusing European states of allegedly participating in combat operations against the Russian Federation. However, he did not provide any evidence for his assertions.
Peskov made these remarks on Saturday, August 29, while commenting on the state of Moscow’s relations with European countries, as reported by the Russian propaganda agency “Interfax.”
According to the Kremlin spokesperson, European states are not only adopting a confrontational stance towards Russia but are also allegedly mobilizing their military capabilities against it.
“I see no grounds at present to hope for an improvement in our relations with Europe,” stated Peskov.
He claimed that current European politicians are allegedly geared towards confrontation with Moscow not just in words but also “in deed.”
“They are fully mobilizing Europe’s military potentials and directing them against our country, taking direct part in combat operations against us,” said Vladimir Putin’s spokesperson.
The Kremlin is once again attempting to portray European states’ support for Ukraine as direct involvement of European countries in the war against Russia. Moscow reacts particularly sharply to the continued military support for Ukraine from its European allies.
The Russian leadership regularly employs similar rhetoric, seeking to justify its own aggression and to shape an image of an external threat for the Russian audience.
Simultaneously, Peskov hypocritically stated that Russia allegedly remains open to developing relations with European states.
“We need to be aware of this. We certainly need to remain open to building relationships, and we genuinely maintain our openness, but we must perfectly understand who we are dealing with,” added Putin’s spokesperson.
As a reminder, at the end of August 2026, the USA and its European NATO allies conducted a large-scale demonstration of military might near Russia’s borders in response to the sharp intensification of the Kremlin’s hybrid aggression.
