In the evening of August 28, the Russian army struck the Bucha district in the Kyiv region. Following drone strikes on the Zhytomyr highway near Kyiv, severe fires broke out and a detonation occurred. The number of casualties is increasing. Currently, 37 deaths are reported.

The head of the Kyiv Regional State Administration, Timur Tyshchenko, reported that efforts to eliminate the consequences of the strike in the Bucha district are still ongoing – emergency rescue, search, and firefighting operations are underway, and specialists are inspecting buildings and surrounding areas.
August 30 will be declared a Day of Mourning in the Kyiv region for the victims of this Russian attack.
What is known about the attack victims
According to the Regional Military Administration, as of 2:15 PM, the number of fatalities in the Bucha district has risen to 37.
It is noteworthy that the initial reports of casualties emerged today. Tyshchenko reported 27 victims. However, he cautioned that “this figure may not be final.”
Among the deceased is Taras Didych, the head of the Dmytrivska community, who was among the first to arrive at the scene.
Preliminary data indicates that 42 individuals sustained injuries of varying severity, including four children. Seven victims have been hospitalized.
Consequences of the strikes and fires
Currently, approximately 50 residential buildings are known to have suffered damage of varying degrees. The Regional Military Administration added that an operational headquarters has been established in Dmytrivka to process inquiries from local residents.
A total of 381 people, including 59 children, were evacuated from the emergency zone. Authorities emphasize that temporary accommodation is available for residents whose homes were affected.
As a reminder, on the evening before, Russians attacked the village of Myly, located on the Zhytomyr highway near Kyiv. A powerful explosion triggered a severe fire, followed by a detonation. Warehouses and an enterprise caught fire. The flames also spread to the private residential sector.
The Office of the Prosecutor General stated that the detonation near the Kyiv-Chop highway began after a drone, the type of which is being identified, fell or struck the territory of one of the enterprises. The Prosecutor’s Office pledges to investigate the legality of the placement and storage of explosive items and materials on the premises.
