Already on May 18, Ukraine will be hit by rains, thunderstorms, and a new cyclone. Forecasters warn of unstable weather and locally heavy precipitation in several regions.

On Monday, May 18, unstable weather will again rage in Ukraine – forecasters predict rains, thunderstorms, and locally heavy precipitation. The situation will be most difficult in the northern and some central regions.
Meteorologist Natalka Didenko reported that Monday will start with quite warm weather. The daytime air temperature will be +20…+24 degrees, and it will be warmest in Luhansk, Kharkiv, and Sumy regions – up to +25 degrees.
At the same time, short-term rains and thunderstorms are expected across almost the entire territory of Ukraine. According to her, only the northeast of the country will remain without significant precipitation. In Kyiv, rain and possible thunderstorms are predicted, with temperatures around +20 degrees during the day.
According to the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center, significant rains are expected in some northern regions at night. Thunderstorms are also predicted in many regions of the country. Fog is possible in the east, southeast, Transcarpathia, and the Carpathians at night and in the morning.
The wind will be predominantly north-westerly, 5–10 m/s. The temperature at night will range from +9…+14 degrees, during the day – +18…+23, and in the east, in some places, up to +26 degrees.
New Cyclone: When Summer Will Arrive in Ukraine
Despite the destructive consequences, meteorologists reassure that the May precipitation is critically important for agriculture and replenishing soil moisture reserves.
However, the weather will remain unstable. As meteorologist Vitaliy Postrigany explained in a commentary to “Telegraf,” the atmosphere is currently transitioning to a summer regime. At the beginning of the new working week, a new cyclonic vortex will form over the plains of Tura and the Caspian Sea, which will bring warm but humid air to Ukraine.
Unstable weather with periodic downpours and local thunderstorms is expected. However, the temperature background will already resemble summer: during the day, thermometers will show 21-26 degrees Celsius. True climatic summer (when the average daily temperature consistently exceeds +15 degrees) is expected to finally establish itself in the western regions between May 25-30.
The meteorologist also reminded of how to protect yourself during a thunderstorm:

Avoid open spaces, solitary trees, and metal structures;

Seek shelter in solid buildings or in a car with tightly closed windows;

At home, unplug electrical appliances and close windows to avoid drafts;

Immediately leave the body of water if bad weather catches you on the beach.
We remind you that meteorologist Igor Kibalchich warned that the weather in Ukraine will be quite changeable this weekend. From May 16 to May 20, unstable weather with short-term rains will persist in the country.
