July marked one of the bloodiest months for the Russian army since the full-scale invasion of Ukraine commenced. According to Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense, over the past month, Russian Federation forces suffered 42,860 military casualties on the battlefield, including both killed and wounded. This figure represents the highest monthly toll since January 2025 and stands as the fourth-highest month for losses throughout the duration of the war.

This information is reported by the New York Post.

Record Kremlin Losses in a Month: Statistics

The cumulative losses of the occupying forces are nearing the 1.5 million mark. Experts indicate that a shortage of recruits and mobilization challenges are exacerbating the critical situation for Vladimir Putin.

The Kremlin is attempting to lure Russians to the front lines with promises of “quiet service” and is also enlisting foreigners, particularly citizens from African nations. Furthermore, according to Ukrainian intelligence, Pyongyang is preparing to dispatch an additional 30,000 to 50,000 North Korean soldiers to Russia, on top of the 15,000 sent in 2024.

Meanwhile, the Armed Forces of Ukraine are seizing the initiative on the front lines. In the southern sector, Ukrainian units have successfully liberated approximately 775 sq. km. and re-established control over 26 settlements. At the junction of the Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, and Zaporizhzhia regions, the Ukrainian Armed Forces have pushed back Russian forces through targeted strikes and continue to degrade the occupiers’ defenses.

Concurrently, the Defense Forces are intensifying their attacks on Russia’s deep rear. Recently, the Ukrainian Armed Forces struck the “Savasleyka” airbase with long-range “Flamingo” missiles. This base houses MiG-31 fighter jets, which are carriers of ballistic missiles. The precise extent of damage to the aviation equipment is currently being assessed.

Another strike targeted the “Progress” rocket and space center in Samara, one of Roscosmos’s key enterprises involved in microelectronics production.

Russians Fabricate Frontline Successes

Recall that the Russian command announced a series of new territorial gains in northern Ukraine and the Kharkiv region, including the capture of Novomykhailivka and Kudiyivka.

However, the Institute for the Study of War notes that these purported successes lack independent battlefield confirmation, and the claim regarding Novomykhailivka was even refuted by a Kremlin-affiliated military blogger.

According to expert analysis, the Russian military is deliberately exaggerating the scope of its advances to create the illusion of a continuous and successful offensive across all key directions. The primary objective of such disinformation campaigns is to persuade Western partners that continued support for Ukraine is futile.
