White soles look striking, but even after a few outings, dark streaks, dust, and stains appear on them. Dirt accumulates particularly quickly in textured areas, where simply wiping with a damp cloth is no longer effective. At the same time, there’s no need to buy expensive specialized products. For quick cleaning, you can use a simple home method with baking soda and a small amount of regular dish soap. This mixture helps soften the dirt and mechanically remove it from the sole’s surface.

What you’ll need for cleaning

For home cleaning, it’s sufficient to take about a teaspoon of baking soda, a few drops of dish soap, and a little warm water. Mix the ingredients to the consistency of a thick paste. It shouldn’t be too liquid, as then the mixture will run down the shoes and be less effective.

Before the procedure, it’s advisable to remove sand, soil, and other surface dirt from the sole with a dry brush or cloth.

How to clean the sole in a few minutes

Apply a small amount of the prepared mixture directly to the soiled areas. Then, take an old toothbrush or a small brush with soft bristles and gently scrub the surface.

Pay special attention to the grooves and textured parts of the sole. This is where the most dirt usually accumulates. There’s no need to exert excessive force. It’s better to brush over the stain several times than to rub the sole hard, trying to clean it in a few seconds.

After applying, leave the mixture for about 5–10 minutes to allow the dirt to soften. Then, brush again and rinse off the remaining cleaner with a damp sponge or cloth. Finally, wipe the sole with clean water and dry it thoroughly.

What to do about old black streaks

If dark marks remain on the sole that couldn’t be removed the first time, you can repeat the procedure. For stubborn stains, it’s convenient to use a melamine sponge, but work with it carefully and without strong pressure.

A melamine sponge acts as a very fine abrasive, so on glossy or painted surfaces, it can alter the texture. It’s best to test it on a small, inconspicuous area first.

What not to do

It is not recommended to clean white soles with aggressive substances or products intended for plumbing fixtures. They can indeed remove stains quickly, but at the same time, they can damage the material, alter its color, or make the surface more brittle.

Also, avoid using stiff metal brushes. They can scratch the rubber or polymer material, after which dirt will accumulate even faster in the micro-scratches.

If the sole has colored inserts, decorative coating, or a special texture, it’s best to test any home remedy on a small, inconspicuous area first.
