Against the backdrop of the threat of massive Russian missile strikes, Ukrainians should prepare now for a difficult winter and potential prolonged power outages.
This was stated by the commander of the 429th Separate Brigade of Unmanned Systems “Achilles”, Yuriy Fedorenko, in a comment to “24 Channel”.
The military official emphasized that upon an alert about a massive attack threat, Ukrainians should first head to shelters. At the same time, according to him, it is impossible to guarantee complete safety, but each person can take steps in advance to improve it.
“This needs to be done today, preparation must begin today,” Fedorenko stressed.
The commander of “Achilles” noted that state bodies and territorial communities are actively preparing for the heating season, but Ukraine’s resources and production capabilities are insufficient to completely eliminate risks associated with potential strikes on energy infrastructure.
Therefore, Fedorenko urged citizens not to postpone preparations for possible blackouts. In particular, he recommended purchasing a generator in advance if possible, securing a fuel supply, electric heaters, and a sufficient amount of water.
Also, according to him, it is worth considering the installation of additional heating devices in apartment building entrances, if technical and financial capabilities allow.
The military officer pointed out that such preparation requires additional expenses, but purchasing necessary items in the midst of frost can be significantly more difficult.
“Looking for generators when the temperature already reaches -20 degrees is not the best option,” Fedorenko noted, urging Ukrainians to secure basic supplies and alternative sources of heat and electricity in advance.
It is reminded that in autumn, the situation in Ukraine may significantly worsen due to the need to simultaneously strengthen defense against Russian missile attacks and prepare energy infrastructure for winter. One of the main problems remains the shortage of air defense systems, particularly interceptor missiles for Patriot systems.
