Former Minister of Defense of Ukraine Mykhailo Fedorov addressed the question of whether he intends to continue striving for the position or plans to return to business.
He shared this during a live broadcast with public figure and his former advisor Serhiy Sternenko.
Will Fedorov return to the Ministry of Defense — his response
According to Mykhailo Fedorov, he has no moral right to concern himself with other matters or go into business, despite receiving such offers. He noted that people are fighting for the future and believe in the possibility of change, and there is currently no definitive refusal of this path.
“As long as people are fighting for tomorrow, and my name is mentioned, and generally people believe that it is possible to achieve this. Today, there is no clear ‘no’. I believe we always have chances,” Fedorov stated.
Additionally, the ex-minister emphasized the importance of appointing the head of the defense department with full authority as soon as possible.
“But no matter what happens, it is very important to understand that today we do not have a Minister of Defense in Ukraine, today there is an acting minister. Legally, this means that the deputy becomes the acting minister. He fulfills the duties,” he explained.
According to him, the current acting minister attends government meetings, but due to his status, he is deprived of the right to vote on important decisions.
Fedorov added that such a temporary situation is understandable given the current context, but it should not be prolonged.
“It is very important that when the parliament comes out of recess, it must make a decision and vote for the Minister of Defense. Because decisions need to be made. It is necessary to meet with partners. Every day there are tens, hundreds of different decisions. And this must be done by the Minister of Defense,” the politician stressed.
Finally, he added that this process should occur within clearly defined timelines. The deadline for appointing the Minister of Defense is August 18, when the Verkhovna Rada will convene.

We remind you that Mykhailo Fedorov, who led the Ministry of Defense for the last six months, left his post on July 15. After his dismissal, he issued sharp criticism against Oleksandr Syrsky, openly confirming that he had demanded the resignation of the Commander-in-Chief.
The decision on the resignation of the former head of the department caused significant public resonance: rallies in his support took place in various Ukrainian cities.
Later, the politician broke his silence and revealed the true reasons for his departure from the government.
At the same time, Fedorov emphasized that in wartime conditions, he does not plan to move into opposition to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Furthermore, he warned that he would not join protesters on the streets who were demonstrating in his defense.
